We are both avid readers of Science Fiction and Fantasy, although our tastes in authors and types do not overlap by much. We have a large (and ever growing) collection of books, many purchased from Marion and Richard's bookshop At The Sign Of The Dragon, 131 Sheen Lane, London SW14 8AE. In fact the collection is getting so large that the floor is starting to bow under the weight!!!!!!
Our favourite authors include:
Isaac Asimov
Marion Zimmer Bradley
Lois McMaster Bujold
David Drake
David Eddings
Anne McCaffrey
Larry Niven
Andre Norton
Terry Pratchett
David Weber
James White
The whole of the Star Wars saga
Brian has just read Ashes Of Victory by David Weber. Like all of his Honor Harrington books, it was action-packed and immensely enjoyable. If you like Space Opera or Hornblower / Bolitho type books you could do a lot worse than read these.
We have also read the latest Lois McMaster Bujold title in the Miles Vorkosiganseries, A Civil Campaign. We both found it very enjoyable, and can't wait to see what happens next - particularly to Ivan, who has been foolish enough to get himself noticed by both Miles and Gregor
We also watch as much SF on TV and the big screen as possible. Our favorite TV series include:
Babylon 5
Highlander (including, hopefully, The Raven)
Stargate SG1
The Outer Limits
Sliders
Star Trek (all series to a lesser or greater degree)
The X Files
The Crow, Stairway To Heaven is another new series on Sci-Fi channel that both of us are enjoying.
We have both found Stargate SG1 to be very enjoyable, with good special effects and, on the whole, good storylines. If you get the chance it is well worth a look. Season Three has just finished on Sky 1, and really lived up to previous seasons. Minor spoiler - I've discovered that the scariest four words in the English language are "I need your help", when spoken by an Asgard to Jack!
We've recently seen Galaxy Quest, and both laughed our socks off!!! Loved all the references to Star Trek in particular, but also visual references to Armageddon, Fifth Element and Flight Of The Navigator. We are now looking forward to Titan AE and some of the other action / adventure films due out soon. p
